Fanlisting

What is a fanlisting?

A fanlisting is a web clique that lists fans of a particular subject. Unlike most web cliques, a person does not need a web site in order to join. Fans from around the world submit their information to their approved fanlisting and they are then listed to show their love for the subject.

Big Country

Big Country was formed in 1981 when Stuart Adamson of The Skids returned home to Dumfermline, Scotland and began Big Country with friend, guitarist Bruce Watson. Originally filling out the lineup were brothers Pete and Adam Wishart and Clive Parker. The group caught the attention of Phonogram Records, which requested demos. However, Adamson and Watson ended up hooking up with bassist Tony Butler and drummer Mark Brzezicki, bringing together the unmistakable sounds of Big Country.

In 1982, they had their first major hit, "Harvest Home", from their debut album, The Crossing. The second single, "Fields of Fire (400 Miles)" broke through to the Top Ten. However, it was their third release, "In A Big Country", which put their name on the map. The first single released in America, "In A Big Country" earned the band Grammy nominations for Single of the Year and Best New Artist. When The Crossing was released, it went platinum in the UK, double platinum in Canada, and gold in the United States. "Chance" became the next Top Ten hit in Britain.

Their second album, Steeltown, was released in 1984. While not as commercially accepted as anticipated, Steeltown launched their two of their most known singles, "East of Eden" and "Where the Rose Is Sown".

In 1986, "Look Away" became Big Country's biggest hit single yet, from The Seer. The release of "One Great Thing" marked the band's tenth consecutive UK Top 30 hit.

The following two albums, Peace In Our Time and No Place Like Home both went certified gold, bringing the bands total record sales to over ten million.

In 1995, their seventh studio recording (their sixth being a live performance), Why the Long Face, was well received, but did not sell as well as hoped.

Despite disappointing sales, Big Country continued to tour, putting on power-house shows and exhausting live performances to sold out venues around the world.

In 1999, Big Country's eight, and subsequently final, studio album, Driving To Damascus was released.

In December of 2001, Stuart Adamson was found dead in a hotel room in Hawaii. Adamson, who had battled alcoholism, had relocated to Nashville, Tennessee and was reported missing in early November. Sadly, his death was ruled a suicide.
